How do you accommodate for the different types of cytokine responses and how they are confounded?

We are currently measuring 46 cytokines in a 30-plex and 17-plex (interferon gamma overlaps). Most of the cytokines are involved in the activation pathway for immune cells. They are confounded as there are multiple cytokines which share function with one another. Our classifier accounts for overfitting. After measuring the 46, we look at the pathway in which they are upregulated and sort into a subcluster based on the type of immune activation the cytokines imply. The subclusters were identified the same way that we broadly identify responders and non-responders: unsupervised hierarchical clustering. Note: cytokine panel configuration is likely to change as we move forward and continue refining the platform.
